The Shiv Sena saidon Monday that courts which have threatened to stall the construction of Shivaji’s memorial have neither been able to implement the Uniform Civil Code nor have they defended Article 370 of the Constitution.

The Bombay high court had last week warned the state government it would stay the construction of the offshore Shivaji Maharaj memorial if the construction of the Mazgaon court building, which was evacuated overnight in 2013, is not expedited.

“If such threats were given by a goon or a politician, he would have been booked for demanding ransom, forceful recovery, kidnapping and robbery. But who will be punished when such threats are given inside a courtroom Farmers are not being able to repay their loans, but if they start putting a gun on somebody’s forehead and expect their loans to be repayed, they would be hanged,” the Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana on Monday.

“What legal language does this statement fit into What has to be done with the memorial will be decided by the elected government. The government will decide the place where it has to be constructed and will ensure there is enough money for the purpose,” it added.
