Launching an attack against the Bharatiya Janta Party’s city president Ashish Shelar, Shiv Sena has demanded to know why the BJP-led state government had awarded contracts worth crores of rupees to the blacklisted J Kumar firm.

Linking Mr Shelar’s name to the infrastructure firm, Shiv Sena spokesperson Dr Neelam Gorhe warned him that he was yet to get a clean chit following an inquiry.

In April, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had filed an FIR against J Kumar Infraprojects and five other contractors and two quality auditors for their alleged involvement in the Rs 1,500-crore road repair scam in Mumbai. Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd has recently however issued a letter of award to JKumar-CRTG’s joint venture for the city’s third phase of metro rail project worth Rs 5,012 crore.

Shiv Sena’s reaction comes after Ashish Shelar and BJP MP Kirit Somaiya attacked Shiv Sena regarding corruption in the BMC.
