The CBI on Friday opposed the bail application filed by Indrani Mukerjea in the murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora.

Mukerjea has filed a bail plea on medical grounds saying she is facing serious health issues and need to be released on bail for proper medical treatment, but the CBI has claimed that she is getting all the required treatment and proper food, and hence, there is no need to grant her bail.

Mukerjea had filed for bail through advocate Gunjan Mangala and Mahesh Jethmalani who completed arguments on her bail plea on Thursday. The CBI filed its reply opposing the bail plea following which the applicant’s lawyers told the court that they would want to file rejoinder to the prosecution’s reply.

The bail plea was filed based on medical reports from JJ Hospital. The bail application states that she needs proper personal care, which is not possible in prison.

Special CBI judge H.S. Mahajan adjourned the hearing on bail plea till March 23 and said that he would pass the order the same day.

CBI counsel Bharat Badami told the court that as per the team of doctors who examined her, she is on the path to recovery. He also informed the court that whenever she complained of any health issues, doctors were consulted and so far 12 different experts have examined her.

Mr Badami also said that the CBI has recorded statements of all these doctors whose reports so far have said she was fine.

The court was also informed that recent reports have suggested that her weight is also stable. The CBI lawyer claimed that she has been given proper medical treatment, high protein diet and dry fruits from the jail canteen.

Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, was allegedly strangled in a car in April 2012 and her body burnt and dumped in a forest adjoining Raigad district. Her body was found in late August 2015. CBI, which took over the probe from Mumbai police late last year, suspects that financial transactions led to Sheena’s murder.
