Calling film star Shah Rukh Khan ‘a tolerant actor’, Shiv Sena on Saturday said that the actor should have shown his ‘patriotic credentials’ and returned from the United States after being detained at an American airport.
US immigration department officials had detained Mr Khan at the Los Angeles airport on Friday. Commenting on this, Shiv Sena said his return after suffering another ‘insult’ in the US would have been a ‘slap in the face of America.’
This is Mr Khan’s third detention at a US airport in the last seven years. In 2012, he was detained at the White Plains airport near New York for over two hours by immigration officials. In 2009 too, the actor was detained by immigration officials at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey because his name came up on a computer alert list.
Commenting on this, the editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamana said, “Despite the common occurrences of detention, the ‘tolerant actor’ keeps on going to the US. This has been a common occurrence with Shah Rukh at most big US airports. Still, he goes to the US repeatedly, only to get insulted.”
“He should have returned, displaying his patriotic credentials, and telling the US ‘I won’t step into your country if you are going to insult me in this manner’. Had he done so, it would have been a slap in the face of America. The US views every Muslim as a terrorist,” the Sena said.
After his detention, the Bollywood actor had openly expressed his displeasure on social media. “I fully understand and respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really, really sucks (sic),” the actor tweeted.
The Sena also suggested that popular actors guide the youth of
Kashmir. “The Khans of Bollywood should take to Twitter to direct the misguided youth in Kashmir, who are on rampage,” the Sena said.
