The Mulund police has arrested a man on Thursday morning for murdering his friend over not repaying a loan of Rs 1,000.
The accused has been identified as Arjun Sakharam Dhepe (67), a resident of Dombivali and he works as a security guard at a construction site in Mulund. The victim Uttam Chinappa Kamble (48) was a resident of Wagle Estate in Thane and worked as a security guard at the same construction site as the accused.
Police officials investigating the case said that on December 2, both Dhepe and Kamble were working on the same shift. At around 9.30 pm, Devdhar demanded that Kamble return the money he had lent to him a few months ago. “Kamble had allegedly taken a loan of Rs 1,000 for a personal reason from Dhepe. He had promised to return it soon but since then had been delaying the payment,” said an officer. On the day of the incident, Dhepe and Kamble got into an argument due to the same issue. An enraged Dhepe picked up an iron pipe left in the construction site and started beating Kamble with it.
Dhepe hit Kamble on the head and neck causing injuries due to which the victim collapsed. When the other guards heard the commotion, they rushed to the spot and rushed Kamble to Mulund General Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The Mulund police registered an offence and investigated the matter and with the help of footage recorded by the CCTV cameras present at the site, apprehended Dhepe. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
