If everything goes smoothly, Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt is expected to walk out of Pune’s Yerwada jail after serving his complete sentence in the last week of February or the first week of March 2016.
While Dutt’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant had told The Asian Age that the actor would be coming out of jail on February 24 next year, the jail authorities seem to have a different calculation and sources from prison have said that the actor would be released on March 7, 2016.
The actor was a lean man when he visited his family on a 30-day parole in August this year. However, according to sources, Dutt has once again beefed up.
Special TADA judge P.D. Kode had acquitted Dutt from charges of terrorism, however, he had sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for six years for possessing illegal arms. The actor was finally sent to prison after the Supreme Court also upheld his conviction though his sentence was reduced to five years. Since Dutt had already served 18 months as an undertrial before being released on bail, he was supposed to undergo another 42 months in jail. Additional director general of police (prison) P.M. Upadhyaye said, “It (exact date of Dutt’s release) cannot be revealed now. It is only tentative.”
