Rotting body of man found in drain

The D.N. Nagar police is tying to identify a highly decomposed body found on an open ground in the area. The body was discovered after the Mumbai police received a call from an anonymous person about a dead body seen floating in the drain. The body that of a male was found in a highly decomposed state behind the popular fish market near Good Shepherd Church in Andheri’s 4 Bungalows area.
Preliminary probe indicates that the man is in his mid 40s. “The body was found in a semi-clad condition and we think he is about 40 years of age,” said senior inspector Dhanaji Nalawade, D.N. Nagar police station.
The police also revealed that the man had sustained various injuries before his death. “It looks like he was attacked many times before he died. There is an injury on the back of his head. There are also some cuts on his hands and ears,” he added.
While the exact time of death is not yet clear, the body appears to be more than three days old. “It was in a highly decomposed state when we found it and a strip of cloth was found wrapped around the neck of the deceased. This has led to us to believe that he was strangled to death and hence we have registered a case of murder,” Mr Nalawade said.
An investigator revealed that there is a possibility that the deceased was not murdered in the same place from where his body was found. “The man could have been murdered elsewhere and dumped in the drain. There is a deep injury in the middle of the deceased’s back in addition to cuts and nicks at various other areas,” an officer said.
The unidentified body has been found less than ten days after the body of a woman, whose identity has not yet been ascertained, was found in Kurar. Officials have said that while it was too soon to reveal whether there was a connection between both the cases, they were still investigating all possible angles.
