Results pending, students restive

Despite assuring students on August 2 that all pending results would be declared within a week, the University of Mumbai (MU) is yet to declare numerous exam and revaluation results. Members of students’ unions, who had been given the assurance by MU vice-chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, said the delay showed the lethargy and inefficiency of the university and the V-C should take moral responsibility for the same.
On August 2, various students’ organisations like the Yuva Sena, MNVS, NSUI, ABVP, Chhatrabharti, Prahar and 25 other organisations had met university authorities and demanded that the pending results of 96 exams be declared as soon as possible. In response, Dr Deshmukh in the presence of Controller of Examination Deepak Wasave had assured them that all results would be declared within eight days.
“The V-C has failed to keep his promise as the MCom results and revaluation results of thousands of students are yet to be declared. It is mid-August and while most universities have started the next academic year, MU is still struggling to declare results of the previous year,” said Santosh Gangurde, vice-president of the MU wing of MNVS.
Deepak Wasave, CoE, MU, while refuting the allegations said that a majority of the results had already been declared. “With the exception of MCom, results of most exams have been declared. We will soon start announcing the revaluations results too,” said Mr Wasave.
The MU has invited applications for the post of CoE on Tuesday. The post is lying vacant and Mr Wasave has been the officiating CoE for the past year. Filling the post was another demand of the students’ organisations in the meeting with the university officials.
