Bandra-Worli Sealink witnessed high drama last Friday when an on-duty security guard tried to prevent three youngsters from taking selfies only to end up being allegedly kidnapped by them and driven around on Mumbai’s roads. However, the security personnel managed to escape from the trio’s car by taking advantage of a traffic jam. The Bandra police is now investigating the case.

The accused — driver Anil Shelke (35), college-going youngster Rahul Jadhav (20) and diamond polisher Rohit Jadhav (24) — were arrested last Friday after they allegedly kidnapped a security guard. Officials said the three are residents of Kurla and had left home on Friday to spend the evening at Marine Drive. They took the Bandra-Worli Sealink route.

They stopped their car in the middle of the Sealink for taking selfies.

Bandra police station investigation officer, PSI Sushant Patil, said, “After they stopped their car in the middle of the road to click photos which is not allowed, a security personnel, Tanvir Ansari, came towards them and stopped them from doing the same, ordering them to immediately leave the place. When the youngsters refused to listen to Mr Ansari, he called out to senior officers of his private security group, who suggested that Mr Ansari sit in the accused’s car and take them to traffic police officials standing at the end of the sea link.”

“Ansari did that but when they came close to the end of the Sealink, the driver drove so fast that he did not stop his car near the traffic police. Thereafter, the trio beat up the security guard and travelled again to Kurla. Meanwhile, security officials of Bandra-Worli Sealink informed the control room and announced MV seizure (in this seizure, every police personnel gets an alert message to nab the car),” added Mr Patil.

Near Kurla, they faced some traffic, taking advantage of which, Mr Ansari pushed the other two accused and fled from the car to approach VB Nagar police station. V.B. Nagar police immediately arrested the accused and transferred the case to Bandra police station.
