Pratyusha suicide case: Rahul has cheated several girls, claims his ex-lawyer

Producer Rahul Raj Singh had cheated several girls and was in constant touch with a few of his ex-girlfriends, claimed Neeraj Gupta, his ex-lawyer. Mr Gupta was handling Rahul’s case since television actor Pratyusha Banerjee’s death but withdrew from the case on Wednesday. Mr Gupta said that while Rahul, in his statement, told the police that on the night of March 31, Pratyusha and he had organised a party in their house, he was actually spotted in a restaurant in Andheri (west) late night the same day, just a few hours before Pratyusha’s death.

Rahul also told the police that Pratyusha had been drinking right from the night of March 31 till 2.30 pm on Friday. However, Mr Gupta raised doubts over Rahul’s statement saying that a girl who had been drinking the whole night could not have hung herself as such excessive consumption of alcohol would cause one to lose one’s senses to the extent that one would not be able to tie a noose.

Mr Gupta claimed that Rahul used to befriend girls only for their money and to get a hold on them, get them addicted to alcohol and drugs. “It’s his modus operandi; he has cheated many other girls in a similar fashion,” said Mr Gupta. He added that Rahul had conned a girl named Heer Patel of Rs 25 lakh on the pretext of producing a film with her as lead.

Mr Gupta asked police to check Rahul’s call data records, claiming that he was in touch with several girls and one of his ex-girlfriends used to often barge into their house to beat Pratyusha. Mr Gupta said that Rahul used to disappear every time his ex-girlfriend was about to arrive to beat Pratyusha.

Mr Gupta said Rahul was leading a lavish life well beyond his known sources of income. The lawyer said that Rahul was using Pratyusha’s money and when the money started drying up, Pratyusha feared that Rahul might leave her for lack of money. “Pratyusha was depressed because she had already left her family, friends and career for Rahul and now feared that Rahul would leave her too,” said Mr Gupta.

Rahul’s doctor Santosh Goyal said that he had initially thought that the actor had a nausea problem but Rahul kept talking about Pratyusha. “He goes on crying ‘I want to be with her. I want to run away. She (Pratyusha) is alone’ so we are trying to take help from a psychotherapist,” said Dr Goyal. He also said that Rahul would be discharged in two-three days.
