The Thane police on Thursday arrested three people who had allegedly abducted a developer from Mumbra, in Bihar. The victim, Khalid Nurulla Kadri (49), was unhurt.

Joint police commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre told reporters here the accused were arrested on August 9 for abducting Kadri. The accused have been identified as Noor Alam (30), Safi Ulla Khan (45) and Irfan Khan (22).

According to police, Alam, allegedly lured Kadri to Patna on July 27 on the pretext of them inking a land deal. Kadri reached Patna on July 30 where he was abducted by the accused, who called up his wife and demanded Rs 40 lakh as ransom. Frightened, Kadri’s wife informed the police about the call. The police on August 2 registered an FIR in the Mumbra police station under Sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 387 (Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) of the IPC against the abductors.

On August 5, the police suggested that the woman go to Bihar. “She went to Bihar and rescued her husband after handing over Rs 30 lakh to his captors, the police said. Kadri told us that he was taken to the Nepal border after one of the accused, who worked as a compounder in a hospital, administered him an injection, which made him drowsy.”

Based on information provided by Kadri, the Thane police, with the help of Pancharanya district S.P. Vinay Kumar arrested the trio and recovered Rs 29.89 lakh, three cell phones and the injections from them.
