Keen on taking the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena government head on in the on-going Budget Session of the state legislature, main Opposition party Congress decided its strategy on Wednesday. Along with raising issues like drought and farmers’ suicide, the Congress is going to target education minister Vinod Tawde who allegedly has three Director Identification Numbers (DIN). The party leaders claimed to have documents against a minister in the ruling parties disclosing a fresh corruption case.

The strategy was decided in a meeting of the legislators held on Wednesday at the Vidhan Bhavan headed by Congress state president Ashok Chavan, in-charge Mohan Prakash, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and senior leader Narayan Rane. It was unanimously decided that the Congress should pressurise the government and get the corrupt ministers to resign.

“We are going to raise issues like drought, farmers’ suicide and water woes in the state. The problem is going to be very severe in the coming days. We are also raising the issue of Vinod Tawde who did not disclose information about his DIN in his election affidavits. The party is keen that he should resign. The party leaders also have some important documents which will open a fresh corruption matter by a minister,” a Congress leader said.

Also, Congress has agreed to go with NCP in raising issues so that unity among the Opposition parties will be stronger. The Congress and NCP group leaders will meet everyday in the morning and evening to coordinate amongst themselves. “The coordination will help both the parties to raise issues and pressurise government to take decisions. Our leaders will meet with NCP twice every day,” the leader added. Both former alliance partners Congress and NCP were not in tune last few sessions of the legislature that helped the ruling parties in the house.
