Politics over the recent death of a Humboldt penguin at Byculla Zoo reached its zenith when corporators in the BMC on Wednesday demanded a Shok Sabha or condolence meet in memory of the dead bird. However, the demand was not considered in the civic standing committee meeting.
It is a standing committee practice to observe a few minutes of silence following demise of a prominent personality.
However, corporators insisted that the same be followed for “Dory”, the female penguin that died at the zoo on Sunday.
Congress Corporator Waqarunnisa Ansari demanded that a shok sabha be held for the dead bird. “BMC brought these exotic birds to city whose climate is not suitable for them. We should hold a condolence meet over the penguin’s death,” she said.
