The deputy director of education has issued a showcause notice to a junior college for girls in Wadala that has been operating without proper permissions and has ordered the transfer of the students to proper colleges so that the students do not lose out. Currently, the junior college runs two classes one each for FYJC and SYJC in the evening session and the students in this session will be affected by its closure.

Speaking about the junior college in Wadala, Chetan Pednekar, vice-president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNVS) said, “There is a girls’ night school which has been admitting students illegally to Class 11 and 12. When it was brought to our notice by some parents we approached the deputy director of education B.B. Chavan and apprised him of the same. On inquiry he found that the allegations were right and except for the school the junior college did not have permission to offer arts and commerce courses,” said Mr Pednekar.

He added that MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar headed the delegation that met Mr Chavan and demanded that immediate action should be taken against the management of the junior college while at the same time ensuring that the education of the girl students was not affected.

Mr Chavan confirmed that the junior college was operating illegally and had been issued a showcause notice that would be followed up with a closure notice. “The future of the students will not be affected as our office will ensure that the students are accommodated in colleges close to their place of residence,” said Mr Chavan.
