Revenue minister Eknath Khadse on Monday justified his decision to allot land at Ambivali in Andheri to actor Hema Malini’s Natyavihar Kalakendra Charity Trust and refuted the allegations that it was given at a throw-away price of Rs 70,000.

The minister said that the allotment was done as per the existing rules under which land is given to educational institutes, hospitals, schools and colleges. He also said that those who feel that the rules were not followed in this case could appeal against the decision.

“Firstly, the valuation of the plot given to Ms Malini’s institute has not been done. Secondly, the land is not being sold, but being given on lease. The government can give such land even for Rs 1. If anybody that the rules were not followed while allotting the land, they can appeal against the decision,” the minister said.

Ms Malini also said that as of now she has not paid any money to the government and she will follow all the rules and regulations of the government.

“I have not paid anything as of now. I will follow all the rules and regulations of the government. Why speculate the price when I don’t know myself how much I have to pay... whatever will be the cost I will pay it,” she told reporters.
