Even though the civic body has restored water supply to Parel and Matunga areas after fixing the New Tansa pipeline that burst on Wednesday, traffic at Babasaheb Ambedkar Road continues to be affected, causing inconvenience to commuters. This is because the BMC has found it difficult to repair the dug up road owing to steady rainfall. It has stated that it will be difficult to concretise the road before the monsoon ends. For now, it will restore the road by fixing paver blocks on it.

An official from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hydraulics department said it took the workers several hours to dig up the road and access the underground damaged portion of the pipeline. In order to restore water supply to the regular morning time, the BMC had to fix the damaged pipeline overnight. It ensured that water supply was back to normal in the morning, to all the affected areas, including King’s circle, Matunga, Parel, and Lalbaug.

Meanwhile, as fixing paver blocks on the road barely takes half a day, for the road to settle in before paver blocks are placed, concretisation takes much longer, and cannot be done if the road gets owing to rain. Meanwhile, during the repair work of the New Tansa pipeline, a drain in the area was also damaged. The BMC fixed it right away. A portion of the New Tansa pipeline burst on Wednesday morning at about 6 am led to severe flooding at Babasakeb Ambedkar road.
