Former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Nawab Malik has submitted a written complaint to Mumbai police crime branch against a fugitive underworld gangster for allegedly receiving threats and phone calls from him. The former elected representative feels the threat calls might be over his recent statements in the media on the suicide case of builder Suraj Parmar.
A crime branch official confirmed that a complaint has been received and appropriate action would be taken. According to Mr Malik, who is spokesperson for Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the caller identified himself as a gangster, who has been the only one active in recent years as Dawood Ibrahim has been inactive, while Chotta Rajan and Arun Gawli are in custody.
The gangster, said the former MLA, was calling him for past two days. Mr Malik said he ignored his phone calls on Tuesday but he again made the phone calls from four different mobile numbers. All the calls were made from overseas. A source requesting anonymity said, “The international phone calls have been traced to Romania, Taiwan, Kenya and even Bhutan.”
When the former MLA picked one of this calls the caller said, “Jyada Shana mat ban. Ghar pe aake thok dunga. (Don’t act very smart. I will bump you off in your house.”
Mr Malik said, “I told him he can do whatever he wants to. I do not fear criminals or gangsters. I hung up. I have given a written complaint to joint commissioner of police, crime, Atulchandra Kulkarni requesting him to look into this threat calls.”
Suraj Parmar, the builder who committed suicie, had in his diary written down the name of a person as “ES”. The deceased builder also mentioned an amount in crores next to the words ES. The matter is now in the high court and Justice A.S. Gadkari in its last hearing had raised this question. Mr Malik during an NCP press conference had also reiterated the issue. He now feels the threat calls are in connection to him raising this issue.
