Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials are on the lookout for a scrap dealer to whom murder accused in the Narendra Dabholkar case, Virendra Tawade, had sold his black motorcycle. The motorcycle was allegedly used for Dabholkar’s murder. Officials are also searching for documents about the same.

According to sources, Tawade’s black motorcycle was used for the murder of Dabholkar as well as Pansare.

Officials got Tawade’s link after the only witness in the Dabholkar case was given a tip-off about Tawade. The witness told officials that the sketch they had made three years ago was the sketch of none other than Sarang Akolkar.

Sources said, “The witness had already mentioned in his statement that Tawade was asked to make guns or arrange guns in 2012. Tawade went to Kolhapur to ask the witness about the same. After the witness identified the assassin, the rest of the things automatically fell into place. Tawade, who was doing all he could to help the conspiracy, gave his motorcycle to Akolkar and Rudra Patil on the day of Dabholkar’s assassination.”

When CBI officials raised questions about his motorcycle, Tawade, at the time, told officers that he rode a motorcycle on the way to Pune from Panvel and sold it to a scrap dealer.

CBI officials have conducted searches in two of Tawade’s houses but they could not get any bike documents from the place. They also confronted the RTO, asking for any documents they might have of the bike however Panvel RTO did not reply to their query. So, the officials started looking for the scrap dealer to whom Tawade had sold his bike.

Tawade was arrested on June 11. CBI officials said that he never gave any answer straightaway and that before answering, he would chant for thirty seconds.

On June 20, the court had remanded him to judicial custody. On June 24, the Kolhapur Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials are likely to extend his custody for further investigation.
