Make In India week, beginning February 13 in Mumbai, will be packed with business events like the Hackathon, sessions on global design and innovation, CNN Asia business forum, seminars, exhibitions, TIME India awards etc. Mumbai will be in special focus with exhibitions across all museums and art galleries, music, street art, sound and light shows and a street food festival that will showcase the local cuisine of the city.
“The Centre is highlighting 11 focus sectors — aerospace and defence, automobiles and automobile components, chemicals and petrochemicals, construction equipment, materials and technology, food processing, infrastructure development, IT and electronics, industrial equipment and machinery, micro, small and medium enterprises, pharmaceuticals and textiles to attract investments,” an official from the industries department said.
According to the official, on the first day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event. The next day will be for CNN Asia business forum and states like Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha will have an investor summit. On February 15, various seminars will be conducted on opportunities in the electronic and IT sectors, oil and gas, power and coal and an investors’ summit ‘Magnetic Maharashtra’.
A seminar on ‘Make In Mumbai’ has been planned on the same day. The remaining three days will have more seminars, investors’ summit for Punjab, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, the official added.
In the Hackathon, coders, engineers and designers will collaborate intensively to come up with ideas that will aim to solve urban design problems. The week-long Hackathon will be held at the IIT Bombay campus. Winners of the Hackathon will present their ideas before venture capitalists, government representatives and the media. An industry-academia interaction featuring manufacturing success stories and an exhibition on innovation, by the best of IIT, will be held at the Make In India Centre.
Founders of leading brands, key decision makers and experts from the fields of fashion, cinema, architecture and management will participate in the day-long session on global design and innovation. The focus will be on knowledge sharing, entrepreneurial attitudes, creative benchmarks and industry trends to create opportunities in luxury manufacturing.
Apart from business summits, the Make In India week will also have food festivals and cultural events at Kala Ghoda. It will showcase Raja Ravi Verma's paintings, Life on the Silver Screen: The Fascinating Story of Indian Cinema, Indian miniature art, Dharavi design museum. TIME will work with McKinsey & Company to shortlist three finalists in each category and a panel will determine the winner.
