The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has taken a tough stand against people spreading rumours about the SSC results on various websites and WhatsApp using the board’s logo. Board officials said that they would be lodging police complaints regarding the issue bring the rumour-mongers to task.

Soon after the MSBSHSE announced the HSC results last week and indicated that the SSC results could also be announced by the end of May, various websites and messaging groups started announcing the dates for the SSC results. According to Mr Gangadhar Mhamane, chairman, MSBSHSE, Pune, the board has not finalised the date yet; however speculations are running rife.

“We have been receiving hundreds of calls from eager parents and students everyday on our helpline numbers asking if the SSC results are out. Even though our personnel assure them that the result dates are not yet announced the callers insist, claiming that the website and message carrying the board say otherwise. We have taken cognisance of the same and have decided to lodge police complaints against the perpetrators of these messages,” said Mr Mhamane.

With the state deciding to conduct the supplementary exams for repeaters and class improvement scheme in July, the board has said that they would be announcing the SSC results earlier than previous years so that the process of verification or marks and getting copies of answer sheets is completed well in advance. However with the board still tight-lipped about the actual date of the result, fake messages announcing the result dates distract anxious parents and students.

Krishna Patil, secretary, MSBSHSE, Pune said, “The board realises the plight of the students and hence has started a procedure wherein the dates will be announced through newspapers and the board’s website.”

“People should not get carried away by the rumours and wait for the board’s announcement only,” he said.
