The MNS, which gave a written complaint against a city-based real estate developer for allegedly refusing to sell flats to non-vegetarians, has alleged the Dadar police refused to lodge an FIR in the matter.

Corporator Santosh Dhuri had on Saturday visited Dadar police station after a tele-sales executive of Sreedhan Group allegedly refused to reveal details of available flats and said they would sell flats only to vegetarians and Jains.

Speaking to The Asian Age, Mr Dhuri said, “I visited the Dadar police station and asked them to lodge an FIR against the builder of the group. But they refused and asked me to give a written complaint, which they said they would investigate and if verified, turn into an FIR.”

“I have been asked to visit the police station again on Monday and will check if they register an FIR. If they don’t, then we will take it up to higher authorities,” he said.

According to Mr Dhuri, he had enquired with the Shreedham Group to book a flat in its project in Goregaon (west). When he called their office, he said, “The woman sales executive first asked me if I was a vegetarian. I, instead told her that told her I am a vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian. Then she said the flats were exclusively being sold to vegetarians, because a Jain temple was also being constructed in the complex,” he said.

“...I approached the Dadar police along with a CD attached to the complaint which has a recording of the conversation with the customer executive,” Mr Dhuri said.

An officer from the Dadar police said they had received a complaint but were yet to lodge an FIR.
