The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has cleared finalising on civil contractors for the construction of the entire 33.5 km-long Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 underground corridor with total civil construction cost of Rs 18,114.9 crore in seven packages.
The scope of the civil work includes design and construction of underground stations and tunnels. The total cost of the metro corridor is Rs 23,136 crore and it will run between Cuffe Parade station in south and Seepz station in the north with around 27 underground metro stations.
The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be funding 57 per cent of the total cost of Rs 23,136 crore, which could increase with additional delays in the project.
“The selection of civil contractors was undertaken as per the JICA procurement guidelines through international competitive bidding (ICB) where JICA has scrutinised the bidding process at every stage,” said MMRC in a release.
The Metro-3 corridor would be a crucial north-south link where it will connect major central business districts (CBD) like that of Nariman Point, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Seepz in Andheri.
The metro corridors will also have two metro stations at the domestic and international airports from where the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to extend their proposed Dahisar (east)-Andheri (east) Metro-7 corridor.
From here, the airport metro station will act as an interchange between metro station for elevated Metro-7 corridor and underground Metro-3 corridor.
This linking will further make it possible for a commuter travelling from Dahisar travel up to Colaba passing through major areas like Andheri, Bandra, Dadar, Churchgate via metro corridor.
