Two policemen sustained injuries in two separate incidents in the city on Thursday. While in Worli, a minor rammed his bike into a constable, in Oshiwara, a sub-inspector was hit by a rash driver. In both the cases, the policemen were posted for routine checks and had hailed the bikers for driving without helmets.

In Worli, the constable attached to the Worli police station is said to have suffered injuries to his hands and legs. The constable has been identified as Deepak Nikanje, The police has registered an FIR against the minor and his parents. According to sources in the Worli police, the incident occurred at about 11 am at Worli Naka.

The boy, whose identity has been withheld, is said to be 17 years old and studying in a local college. “They are residents of Worli and the boy had taken the bike to go meet his friends,” said a source.

According to a source in Oshiwara police station, on Thursday morning, Krushna Dhondu Mandavkar (55), a sub-inspector, was posted for a routine check at Anand nagar junction when he hailed down the rider of a two-wheeler travelling without a helmet. “When he tried to stop him, the biker did not stop but instead tried to speed away and hit the policeman on the back. He was rushed to hospital where they said he had sustained injuries to his back,” said a source.

CM warns of stern action Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that an attack on a police person would be considered an attack on the entire force. “We will run cases of ‘attacks on police’ through fast track courts and take strict action against the offenders,” he warned.
