Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur, who belongs to one of the alliance partners of the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal, on Tuesday came out in support of the government on the controversy over the arrest of JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar.
Ms Kaur said those who want to break the country should be punished.
She also slammed the Congress and the Gandhi family for disrupting the last two sessions of Parliament and said they cannot tolerate the fact that they are out of power now.
“There is Sarbat Khalsa in Punjab. They also demand separate Khalistan, but people do not support them. Those who talk of breaking the country should be punished and strict action should be taken against them,” said Ms Kaur on the sidelines of the Make in India event.
“In such cases, cross border elements are involved which cannot be tolerated. I think, if any person is trying (to) divide Hindustan then strict action should be taken. This is one place where we should not be tolerant.” She said the entire JNU incident is being politicised.
Holding the Congress responsible for wasting crores of rupees from the public pockets by disrupting the past two sessions of Parliament, Ms Kaur said the party would not allow the next session to run as well.
“The party (Congress) has ruined the country. The Gandhi family is not been able to tolerate the fact that they are out of power and hence decided not to run Parliament,” the minister said.
“I am telling you the next session of Parliament will also have disruptions,” she further said.
Alleging conspiracy by the Congress to malign the image of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, Ms Kaur said, “This is deliberate politics being played. The BJP government has zero corruption and positive image of India has been projected globally. This is politics to malign the image.”
