The controversy-ridden joint Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) results to be declared on Wednesday, June 1 will leave a bittersweet effect on the students as those aspiring for health sciences courses may have to start preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) while those aspiring to pursue technical education will benefit from a new system introduced by the government will give students better options for securing a seat in the college and course of their choice.

The state common entrance test cell had conducted the joint MH-CET on May 5 wherein around 4.5 lakh students, including aspirants for health sciences and engineering, had appeared. Around 2.83 lakh students appeared for health sciences that include medical, dental, homeopathy, unani, ayurveda, nursing and other paramedical undergraduate courses. The remaining students appeared for technical education that includes Engineering and Technology, Pharmacy and Pharm. D. With the daunting probability of having to appear for phase 2 of NEET for admission to private medical and dental colleges looming large students not securing sufficient marks in MH-CET will not be very much amused by the outcome as they would be busy preparing for the July 24 test. However, students opting for technical courses will have reason to rejoice as the government has introduced the freeze, slide and float rule wherein on securing a seat in the college and course of their choice students will be able to use the freeze that is confirm adission option.

Those wanting to change college or course after the first round of allocation of seats will be able to use the slide and float option. The options will allow them to change college and course till they are satisfied. The results are expected to be published on the www.mhtcet2016.co.in early on Wednesday.
