Even though the hearing on the review and modification petition for NEET filed by Maharashtra has been posted for Thursday by the Supreme Court, the medical education ministry has said that the MH-CET will be held as per schedule on May 5.
Speaking about the petition filed by the Maharashtra state which was being heard by the SC along with other similar petitions from other states, an official from the medical education ministry said that they were hopeful of a positive outcome in the best interests of the students who would be affected by NEET.
“As a decision on the review and modification petition may take some time the state government has decided to continue with MH-CET and it will be held as per schedule on May 5,” said the official.
The medical education minister also confirmed the same on Tuesday during a press conference and said that students should not take unnecessary stress over the issue and concentrate on appearing for the state conducted entrance tests.
Around 4.5 lakh students are expected to appear for the MH-CET on May 5. The exam will be held in two parts and admissions to medical and dental colleges will be done based on the outcome of the MH-CET. However, students appearing for the test are fearful of the Supreme Court turning down the review petition and making admissions based on NEET mandatory.
When asked about the students’ concern, the official said that it would be difficult to comment on it as the matter was still being heard by the Supreme Court.
“Students appearing for MH-CET should as a precautionary measure apply for the phase II of NEET when registration for the same is started,” said the official adding that such a measure would ensure that they do not miss out on getting a seat.
