Man rams car into cops, held after chase

A 45-year-old man was arrested in Santa Cruz early Wednesday after allegedly injuring two police constables in a motor accident and trying to flee the spot.

A 45-year-old man was arrested in Santa Cruz early Wednesday after allegedly injuring two police constables in a motor accident and trying to flee the spot.

Accused Ranjan Sahu had finished his day’s work and was homebound in his Honda Swift Dzire car early on Wednesday. At around around 2 am on the Juhu Tara Road near Dilkhush high school in Santa Cruz (west) he rammed his car into two constables on a motorbike who were on patrolling duty from behind .When Sahu tried to flee the spot, other police constables gave chase and nabbed him. The police suspect that Sahu, a resident of Indira Nagar in Santa Cruz, was tired after work and was feeling sleepy. The car was a tourist vehicle and was being used as a taxi.

Senior police inspector of Santa Cruz police station, Shantanu Pawar said, “It is not a case of drunk driving. The motorist tried to flee, but we nabbed him. He has been granted surety bail from the police station.” Sahu has been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act.
