Cyber cell officials of the Mumbai police have arrested one Rajendra Kumar Kandanpad Chil for hacking the data of a company from the server of National Stock Exchange (NSE) in the Bandra-Kurla Complex area.

Police officials said they suspected that Chil was the mastermind of the fraud while he was aided by other partners. Officials are searching for them. Chil was arrested by the police on Saturday. Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, the police said in order to steal data, the accused had prepared two bogus websites and through these they were telling various companies to deposit money into their account. The police has now seized the hard disk of the computer.

A cyber crime cell official explained that the NSE of India Limited operates from the BKC area and the complainant in the case works there as a manager. The company takes care of the data of Docks International Limited, so it had all the rights of data and currency delivering and rights of selling all the live data along with wholesale and debit market data. Later, the complainant came to know that the data of the Docks International Limited was getting sold by other websites too, so he started investigating the matter internally. To get the information about how the data was getting sold by other websites, the complainant approached the cyber cell police in January 2016. Following the incident, the police registered a complaint under the IT Act.

During the investigation, the police came to know that Chil, a resident of Kolkata, was operating two websites and selling the data of NSE illegally and also telling people to deposit the money for these data in his account. After receiving the information, the police arrested him on Saturday.
