A 42-year-old man on Sunday committed suicide after his wife moved out of his home to her father’s house. The incident took place in the Poisar area of Kandivali around 10.30 am, said the police, which has registered a accidental death report in the matter. An investigation in the case is ongoing.

The preliminary police investigation has revealed that the deceased, identified as Rajendra More, had a quarrelsome nature and often used to beat his wife. Mukund Pawar, senior police inspector of Kandivali police station, confirming the incident, said, “We have not received a suicide note from More’s house, yet, and our investigation has revealed that there was no foul play in the case. We have registered an ADR and the investigation is on.”

More, who lived with his wife and two children, ran a paan shop in Rajendra Nagar in Borivali (east). More did not earn much and used to often fight with his wife, during which he used to beat and abuse her too, sources said. Irritated with their regular domestic squabbles, More’s wife moved to her father’s house and continued living there, locals told the police, sources said.

On Saturday, More’s wife visited him to pick up her children and collect their belongings. During this visit, More tried to convince her to stay with him, but she refused to pay him any attention and left, which upset him.

More allegedly hanged himself from the fan using a towel the next morning. His body was discovered by the neighbours after they realised he had not emerged from the house for a long time. More’s neighbours informed the police after discovering the body.
