A 35-year-old woman has filed a complaint with Borivali police station against an unknown person for withdrawing Rs 65,000 from her bank account illegally. Three days after registering the complaint, police is still clueless about the fraudster.
Police sources said the accused called the victim on Saturday, posing as a bank employee. He told the woman that her ATM pin had been leaked and someone had tried to withdraw money from her account, however, the bank came to know about it and wanted her to change her ATM pin. The caller asked her for her existing ATM pin and said he needed it to change the pin.
The victim complied and the same evening, she came to know via a SMS on her mobile that Rs 65,000 had been withdrawn from her account. The woman then filed a complaint with Borivali police station.A police official said, “The Reserve Bank of India and other banks keep informing people never to share their ATM pins or online passwords with anyone. Banks never ask for details such as ATM pins, but people still keep falling prey to such scams.”
Meanwhile, the police suspects the offender must be having cases registered against him in other police stations as well. It is also checking call details of the mobile from which the accused called the victim on Saturday.
