A man who boarded the ladies’ first class compartment and allegedly molested a woman, was thrashed by the public and handed over to the police on Sunday.

Rajesh Dayanand Vishvakarma (25) got into a Dahanu Road to Churchgate train in Borivali at around 2.48 pm and allegedly molested the woman, who cried out for help. According to GRP public relations officer Ritesh Ahir, the emergency brake chain was pulled, but the train did not stop and halted at Andheri instead, “At Andheri the man was removed from the compartment and was beaten up by the public who had witnessed the incident,” he said. The GRP has charged Vishvakarma under IPC 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty); the case has been registered at Borivili GRP.

An eyewitness, on the condition of anonymity, said, “The train left Borivali and around Kandivali we heard women screaming and hitting the partition between our compartments, but we could only see her gesturing.”
