A love marriage of eight years has turned into a mystery for Sonu Arora whose wife, Babli, went to her father’s house with their two children in November last year never to return. Despite repeated attempts, he said he has been unable to make any contact with her or the children. After visiting the police station several times in vain, he has now approached the high court.

Sonu used to work in a bar where Babli used to dance after allegedly being pressurised by her family. Later, they fled to Lucknow, Sonu’s hometown, where they got married. For eight years, the couple stayed in Lucknow and had a son and a daughter. The family shifted to Mumbai in 2015 to improve their financial situation. However, on November 18, citing the ill health of their father, Babli’s sister took and and her children to their hometown, Gwalior. “Since then her number has been switched off. Every time, I call my sister-in-law, she refuses to give the phone to Babli. In fact, they are not allowing me to talk to my children,” he alleged. “Their family are into prostitution. I am certain they have taken my wife for this the same way they had forced her into bar dancing,” he added.

Sonu said the police has refused to file an FIR over the issue. Later, he said he filed a non-cognizable at Koparkhairane police station. “Every time I request them to help me out, they ask me to approach the family court,” he said.

On Monday, Sonu submitted a complaint letter to the chief justice of the high court complaining about the police. Prakash Patil, a constable from the police station, said that he had advised Sonu to seek a legal advisor.
