Is chief minister Devendra Fadnavis jumping the gun in his haste to show he has been delivering good governance Two such cases in as many days have set tongues wagging in Mantralaya circles.

On Thursday the CM invited a couple, who were allegedly facing ostracism in their village in Sindhudurg district, to perform a Ganesh Puja at this official residence Varsha. Just a day later, reacting to actor Kapil Sharma’s allegations of BMC officials asking him for a bribe, Mr Fadnavis promptly said the culprits would not be spared and also directed the civic body to take the strictest action in the matter.

However, reports have now revealed that there was more to both cases that meets the eye. In the ostracism case, Paramanand Hewalekar, who had alleged social boycott by the villagers, has been declared absconding by the local magistrate. He is also facing serious charges of sexual harassment, house trespassing and intimidation.

In Mr Sharma’s case, the BMC has said that the actor had constructed an illegal floor in his office at Juhu, which was demolished a couple of months back.

The opposition has alleged that the chief minister has acted irresponsibly without verifying the facts. “Mr Fadnavis wants to show that his government is prompt in taking action. Mr Sharma has not even lodged an official complaint, but the CM still directed BMC officials to take action,” said Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant.
