Homesickness, marriage delay make postman hang himself

The Manikpur police on Saturday morning discovered the body of a postman who had allegedly committed suicide on Friday night.

The deceased, Satish Vitthalrao Shinde, (28) was appointed as a postman in Vasai Road post office. According to the police sources, Shinde hung himself from the roof of his house on Friday. They have also recovered a suicide note from the spot.

In it, Shinde held his poor health and delay in getting married the reason for him to commit suicide. According to sources, Shinde had been depressed for a long time and he wanted to get transferred to his native place in Aurangabad. The note apparently read “I am solely responsible for my sins and my death. Due to my illness and family problems I am ending my life.”

A senior police official said that their preliminary inquiry has revealed that Shinde was the only son of his parents and his elderly parents, who are not in good health, stay in Beed area of Aurangabad district. Shinde got his job in 2010 and he was posted at the Vasai road post office. He had applied for a transfer to Beed on his first day at work but he was not granted the transfer till date and he grew depressed because of it.

Also, Shinde’s friends said that because of his posting he was not receiving any marriage proposals as his family home was away from where he was posted.
