Heavy vehicle runs over man on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway

A middle-aged man died on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway after being run over by an unidentified heavy vehicle early Sunday morning. The deceased is still unidentified and the police is trying to identify the body. The police has also registered a case against the driver of the unknown heavy vehicle and started a search for him.

The incident took place at about 1 am of Sunday near the Tungar Fata area of Waliv. According to a police official, there were no lights on the road at the time of the incident and the deceased was crossing the road, when a vehicle rammed into him from behind and escaped. The man died on the spot.

Nearby police stations were alerted to check if there is any missing complaint from the family of the deceased about him.

In a similar incident, a 21-year-old youth, Kiran Mahadik, died after getting hit by a tanker late on Friday in the jurisdiction of Tulinj police station of Nalasopara. Mahadik’s brother Ajay, who was riding pillion in their motorbike, was badly injured is in critical condition in the hospital. The incident took place on Santosh Bhawan area of Nalasopara (east), the police said.
