A high-level committee of the state government under the state chief secretary will decide the fate of the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train terminus at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) on Monday.

A meeting will take place where officials from the Railway board will present a concrete proposal to the state chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya and senior Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials. MMRDA is the special planning authority of the BKC and it had also opposed the idea of having a bullet train terminus at BKC.

Initially, there was a war of words between railway officials and MMRDA as it had said of it was unwilling to give away the land at BKC for bullet train as it wanted to set up an International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at BKC.

CM Devendra Fadnavis had also written a letter to Union Railway minister Suresh Prabhu suggesting that the railways use its land in Kurla or Bandra for the train.

However, the railway board had said that both the station and the IFSC can co-exist and later the state had formed a high-level committee to look into the proposal.

“There have always been formal and informal talks where railway asked for our land for the bullet train at BKC and we denied them, but there was no such proposal later owing to which it is decided that a high-level committee meeting will be held where the railways will present a proposal for setting up bullet train at BKC,” said an official.
