CM to hold meeting to finalise spot to build Thackeray memorial with Sena nod

A committee headed by chief secretary Swadhin Kshatriya has shortlisted seven plots in the city for late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s memorial. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will soon convey a meeting to finalise one of the plots as per the plan for the memorial. The chief minister had appointed the committee headed by chief secretary last year on the second death anniversary of Thackeray.

“We have shortlisted seven plots for Thackeray memorial in the city. We have not looked for plots in the suburbs. Some of the plots shortlisted belong to the civic body and some are owned by the state government. Two are near the mayor’s bungalow in Shivaji Park, two in Parel where a textile museum was expected to come up, while two are in Wadala and one at Matunga,” chief secretary Swadhin Kshatriya said.

Mr Kshatriya has spoken to the chief minister about the plots available. “The chief minister wants to convey a meeting soon with the authorities concerned and of course, with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray,” Mr Kshatriya said. The government will seek the final nod from the Thackeray family for the proposed memorial. “The plot will be made available as per the requirement of the memorial. Currently, we do not know that on what kind of theme or design they want to build the memorial. There shouldn’t be a problem in allotting the land as the plots belong to the government and the BMC,” Mr Kshatriya said.
