Former senate members have scoffed at the University of Mumbai administration for releasing a list of probable dates for the declaration of results of 423 exams that it conducted in March, April and May. While the university has claimed that most results would be declared before the stipulated 45 days, senators say that the university may not be able to adhere to the deadline as assessment of answer papers of many subjects is yet not completed.
According to the university, it has conducted 423 exams in the arts, science, commerce, law and technology section in April and May. Among the various faculties, arts had 140 exams, which is the highest among all the faculties, followed by technology that had 138 exams. The commerce faculty had 83 exams, science 46 exams and law 16 exams. The university announced that it has declared results of 80 exams the remaining would be announced soon.
Former senators have said that the university’s exam section has been flouting the norm of announcing results within 45 days of the exams being held and the delay would inconvenience students wanting to continue further education in other universities or even go for studies abroad.
“The university is not worried about the students and has been repeatedly delaying results, which is putting students at a huge disadvantage. While the arts, science and technology faculties has seen some of the results being declared, results of none of exams held in the commerce and law faculties have been declared. Students wanting to take admission in post graduate courses will be forced to drop a year as most of the entrance tests including those entrance tests conducted by the university departments are over or will be held soon. There is absolutely no coordination in the university and the examination section is in a mess,” said the senator.
The senator added that the ad-hoc authoritative bodies of the university were not doing their work and should be dissolved immediately.
