FIR filed against boyfriend Rahul in Pratyusha suicide case

An FIR was filed on Tuesday against late television actor Pratyusha Banerjee’s boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh, following Pratyusha’s parents, Soma and Shankar Banerjee, visiting Bangur Nagar police station to record their statement. Sources said they informed the police that Rahul used to torture, assault and abuse their daughter, and had taken away all of her money.

A senior official from the police station confirmed that a case had been booked against Rahul under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC. While no arrest was made till Tuesday evening, Pratyusha’s father demanded either life imprisonment or death for Rahul.

Meanwhile, Rahul’s lawyer told The Asian Age, “Rahul is still critical and on Tuesday morning, he has again been shifted to the ICU of Shri Sai Hospital in Kandivali (east). As of now, it is not possible for him to go to the police station.

On Wednesday morning, we will get anticipatory bail for him as he is unwell.” Rahul has been hospitalised since Sunday morning after he complained of chest pain and low BP. Doctors from the hospital said he is in deep trauma and depression.

Mr Banerjee, who spoke to the media immediately after the FIR against Rahul was registered, said, “We have informed police about the pain our daughter went through. The soul of my daughter will rest in peace only after Rahul is punished, and punishment for Rahul will be a lesson for others as well.” Mr Banerjee told media that they had informed the police about Pratyusha and Rahul’s relationship problems and his behaviour towards her and the truth would soon come out.

While recording their first statement on April 2, Soma and Shankar Banerjee had requested police officials to do a detailed investigation of the case. Ms Soma had even commented, “Rahul should be jailed and never released. He tortured my daughter a lot.”
