Fast trains will be able to halt at Diva come November as the Central Railway (CR) has finally expedited the process of building two new platforms for the trains to halt. This is a result of the Diva riots on January 2 last year, when irate commuters had stopped trains due to constant delays and lack of enough trains from Diva.

CR additional general manager A.K. Srivastava told media persons on Wednesday that the platforms for the fast train will complete construction by as early as October end, enabling the fast trains to take a halt at the station soon.

“We have been trying to finish this work at Diva and there were a few issues but we have taken care of it. We promise you that fast trains will be able to take a halt at Diva by the first week of November,” said Mr Srivastava.

This will be a big relief to Diva residents who had taken on the CR administration through violence, for not halting the fast trains at the stations. Diva has seen a tremendous rise in footfall at the station due to the increased number of housing projects in the suburb. The incident was especially noteworthy, as a riot of this scale by commuters had not been seen for a long time.

The CR will be building the two platforms on the west side of Diva and the Rs 135 crore project also includes the plan for separating outstation trains from suburban, that is the 5th and 6th line. Partial work for the line has been completed between Kurla-Thane and Diva-Kalyan with the only remaining gap between Thane-Diva.

“We are currently working on rehabilitating those that stay where the work is to be done, I think MMRDA and we will soon reach a positive outcome,” further added Mr Srivastava.
