The Bombay high court on Wednesday directed the CBI to carry out further investigations and file a report by December 16 regarding the benami flats reserved for some ‘high and mighty’ politicians and officers in the infamous Adarsh Society.

On Wednesday, the CBI said that they have already completed the investigation and filed a chargesheet in 2014, so it is not possible for them to reinvestigate the matter unless instructions come from superiors or the HC passes an order. A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice A.A. Sayed was hearing the PIL filed by activist Pravin Wategaonkar on Wednesday.

He has alleged that when the CBI was investigating the Adarsh society scam they had taken custody of founder member Kanhaiyalal Gidwani and had mentioned in the remand copy that they wanted to know names of ‘high and mighty’ people who helped to construct Adarsh society. The allegation further includes that four flats were kept reserved for them. The PIL states that the CBI hadn’t mentioned these benami flats in the chargesheet and this information needs to be investigated.
