A local court on Wednesday remanded two police constables, arrested in connection with fake encounter of gangster Sandeep Gadoli, to the Mumbai police custody’s till July 20.
The policemen, identified as constables Vikram Singh and Jitendra Yadav, were arrested in the city on Tuesday evening.
The arrest of these two constables has taken the number of arrests in this case to three. Last week, police had arrested sub-inspector Pradhyuman Yadav who led the team of Haryana police that allegedly killed Gadoli in an encounter at Hotel Airport Metro here on February 7. Yadav was arrested in a raid conducted at his house at Old Gurgaon.
Two teams of the SIT were camping in two hotels at Mahipalpur and old Gurgaon in Rajokari area from March 27 and were monitoring the activities of Yadav, who was changing his location to escape arrest. However acting on a tip that Yadav was hiding in a house in Old Gurgaon, the teams raided the premises and arrested him.
These policemen have been charged for murder, attempt to murder, offences under the Arms Act, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
After the encounter, Gadoli’s family had moved the Bombay high court alleging that it was a fake encounter, following which a Special Investigating Team (SIT) comprising Mumbai police officers, was formed that started a probe and have arrested the police personnel.
However, Gadoli’s family members and lawyer Tanveer Nizam have expressed dissatisfaction over the remand application of the accused, saying it does not speak about the killing being done for money.
