Court extends Peter Mukerjea’s judicial custody till February 8
A magistrate court in the city on Monday extended the judicial custody of Peter Mukerjea till February 8.
A magistrate court in the city on Monday extended the judicial custody of Peter Mukerjea till February 8. The former media baron was produced before the court as his judicial custody in connection with his stepdaughter Sheena Bora’s murder was over.
So far, a chargesheet has not been filed against Mukerjea’s and he is in judicial custody of the magistrate court. Magistrate R.V. Adone extended his judicial custody.
While extending his judicial custody the magistrate rejected Mukerjea’s application seeking permission to attend sessions court while his bail plea is being argued. Since Mukerjea has been arrested in a murder case, the magistrate court does not have the jurisdiction to hear his bail application and hence, he moved the bail before the sessions court which is expected to be heard on January 30. Ms Adone rejected his application seeking his production before the sessions court observing that there is no provision in the law, which allows her to direct jail authorities to produce him before another (sessions) court so that he could hear arguments on his bail application. His family members were present when his custody was extended.
So far, Mukerjea is the last person to be arrested in this case for his alleged role in the conspiracy. The CBI had arrested Mukerjea’s wife Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai for alleged killing Sheena Bora.
