Days before a city sessions court is set to record the statement of Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Tayabba terrorist Dawood Gilani alias David Coleman Headley in connection with 2008 Mumbai terror attack case, the Mumbai police has approached the court seeking its directions for Delhi court to obtain documents related to Headley.

The NIA had in 2009 registered a case against Headley, who is currently serving a 35-year prison sentence in the US for his role in the Mumbai terror attack of 2008. The court also had, on December 10, made Headley an approver, granting him pardon. He is likely to depose on February 8.

In its application, the police has requested the special judge G.A. Sanap to issue direction to the registrar of the Delhi NIA court to provide the documents.

“A request letter kindly be issued to the Delhi NIA judge directing the registrar of that court to produce the documents and articles to this court personally or hand over to a Mumbai police officer,” the application stated.

After taking the application, the judge on record posted it for hearing on January 12.

Judge Sanap had issued a warrant against Headley after which he was produced before the court through video conferencing from an undisclosed location in the US. During this production, Headley had expressed his desire to become an approver in the case, which was accepted by the court and now he is a witness in the case.
