A body that was found in Vasai on April 15 was identified as that of an Andheri-based private cab driver who had been missing since April 6. A complaint in this regard was registered against an unknown person Wednesday evening and an inquiry was started by the Sahar police.
According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Harishchandra Banshidhari Yadav (42), who resided in the Chabinath Pande Chawl of Marol Naka in Andheri (east). Confirming this, a senior police official said that an FIR had been registered at the Sahar police station and a probe is on.
Officials have booked a case under Sections 302 (Murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code. However, they have not drawn any conclusion about the murder of Yadav and neither has his family mentioned any possible suspects in their statements, said the police.
According to the police, Gulabchandra Yadav, brother of the deceased, had filed a missing complaint in Sahar police station earlier this month and informed the officials, that his brother had gone to Vapi to drop a tourist on April 6 and since then there was no sign of him. Later, officials recovered his Innova from Thane on April 10, but Yadav remained untraceable.
Later on April 15, the Waliv police of Vasai found the body near the Kaman–Bhiwandi road, following which the Sahar police was informed. On Wednesday evening, the Sahar police registered the case and started trying to identify the person whom Yadav was supposed to drop off at Vapi. On Wednesday night itself the body of the deceased was handed over to his brother, and his statement was also recorded. The police is investigating the incident.
