NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal has been admitted in the ICU at the St George Hospital after he complained of chest pain during questioning by Enforcement Directorate officials.

Former Maharashtra deputy chief minister and Bhujbal is presently under judicial custody till April 27, after he was arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of the state guest house 'Maharashtra Sadan’ in Delhi and the Kalina land grabbing case in Mumbai.

On Monday morning, Bhujbal was being questioned by ED officials when he suddenly complained of chest pain. Upon being taken to the hospital, it was found that his blood pressure had a high reading of 180/120. “Considering his high blood pressure, he was admitted at ICU. A team of doctors headed by Dr Rohan Sequera (heart specialist) are treating him,” said Dr J.B. Bhavani, the dean of St George hospital.

According to Dr Sequera, Bhujbal will be shifted to JJ Hospital once his condition improves. According to sources, several examinations were conducted on Bhujbal to find out if he had had a heart attack or suffered chest pain due to the sudden spurt in blood pressure.

According to doctors from the hospital, Bhujbal’s health has been deteriorating since the time of his arrest. Recently, the Bombay high court had, in view of Bhujbal’s ill health, granted him permission to have home-cooked food inside the Arthur Road jail where he is kept in judicial custody, along with his nephew and former MP Samir Bhujbal.
