In what is the fourth disruption over the past 15 days, Central Railway (CR) on Tuesday witnessed major delays on all six lines between Thane and CST during evening peak hours, which left commuters stranded yet again.
Railway officials said delays were due to fluctuating power and while they did not cancel more than five trains, nearly 60 to 65 trains were delayed for 15 to 45 minutes. “The power kept fluctuating everywhere and the worst hit was the stretch between Kanjurmarg and CST but it caused extreme delay on the mainline. There are a lot of theories flying around about the reason behind the power fluctuation but the fact is that we have very little time left before the monsoon hits us and we will be in a lot of trouble if we don’t figure it out soon,” said a senior railway official. Power kept fluctuating from 3.30 pm to 7.30 pm and affected the crowd heading home after work.
