The Bangur Nagar police has arrested a couple of persons in an alleged cheating case, where they bought a SUV and gave its amount through demand draft to the car dealer in Malad (west), but next day cancelled the deal through the bank and tried to flee with the car.

The Bangur Nagar police said complainant Santosh Ranvare (30) works as a sales coordinator in a car showroom called G3 Motors Limited on the Link Road. On September 4, two accused identified as Raju Mandal (47), a decorator and Faisal Shaikh (43), a contractor went to the showroom and struck a deal with Mr Ranvare for a Scorpio car. They also gave him Rs 6,000 in cash and said they would give the rest by demand draft.

They gave Mr Ranvare a demand draft from HDFC bank of Rs 5.10 lakh and took the Scorpio car and also documents related to it. However, they went to the bank after that and lied to them that their demand draft had been stolen. They also got a police No Objection Certificate to prove their claim. They had shown the demand draft receipt to the police station and procured the certificate.
