Builder dies after battling for life for over 24 hours

Navi Mumbai builder Raj Kandhari (44) who attempted suicide on Monday, died on Tuesday night. Mr Kandhari was declared brain dead on Monday night and was on ventilator till Tuesday evening when his condition started deteriorating and he passed away at around 8.20 pm.
On Monday, after lunch, Mr Kandhari went to his room and shot himself in the right side of his head with a US-made, licensed .32 revolver at about 2 pm. Soon, he was admitted to MGM Hospital in Vashi, where he was declared dead after battling for life for over 24 hours.
Deputy commissioner of police Shahji Umap, earlier said Mr Kandhari was under severe stress due to financial crisis on one of his projects, according to his family. He was also suffering from depression for the past many months.
A diary found in Mr Kandhari’s room had lines written in Hindi on the lines of life being a roller coaster ride and taking constant tests. A senior police officer said, “The family did not make any allegations and, hence, no case has been registered in the matter”.
Investigators said there were five rounds in the revolver and Mr Kandhari fired only one. “There were three people in the house when he shot himself and his mother was one of them. She has also been admitted to the hospital as she suffers from high blood pressure and is still in a state of shock,” said an officer. A resident of Sanpada, Mr Kandhari is survived by his wife and two children.
