The Bombay high court on Saturday postponed hearing on the bail plea filed by former media baron Peter Mukerjea after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the court that it would file an additional charge sheet against him within a week. Peter has sought bail in the murder case of his stepdaughter Sheena Bora.

When the bail application came up for hearing before Justice A.S. Gadkari, counsel for the CBI told the judge that the agency was ready to file an additional charge sheet against Peter in the murder case and requested the court to defer hearing for some time. Following this, the judge posted the matter for hearing after two weeks.

Hearing on Peter’s bail plea could not take place on an earlier occasion as well since the CBI wanted to reply to certain documents but did not want to share it with the defence.

To this, the judge had told CBI that the court would not consider documents that were not provided to the defence and had asked the agency to decide and inform the court as to whether it was ready to share these documents with Peter’s lawyer or did not wish to rely on them while opposing his bail plea.

On Saturday however, the CBI sought an adjournment on grounds that it was filing an additional charge sheet.

Peter, in his bail application, has contended that there is no material on record to show his involvement in the murder of his stepdaughter and he should hence be released on bail.
